Capacity Building Programme Bee Keeping: Alternate Enterprise for Unemployed Youth at Aspirational District

 

ICAR KVK Namsai has been pushing the farmers to adopt the Honey Bee farming as viable livelihood activities in the aspirational district of Arunachal Pradesh. Seven Days training programme (24-30th July,2018) on Scientific Beekeeping for the farmers was inaugurated on 24th July, 2018 at KVK Premises. This programme has begun under the flagship of National Bee Board, Deptt. of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India funded under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture Mission (MIDH) with the objective of promotion of Beekeeping as profitable venture and alternate source of income generation activities in collaboration with College of Horticulture & Forestry and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namsai at District level. The programme was initiated by the Welcome address by Dr. Manish Kanwat, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Anjaw. He welcomed the participants and briefed the gathering about the importance of organizing this training &highlighted the scope of Apiary in the district. The chief guest of the programme, Dr. Tanmay Samjadar, Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer, ICAR KVKs in NEH Region enlighten the farmers about the potentiality of Bee Keeping to be the next promising venture for the farming community particularly Farm Women, rural youth and unemployed people. He also asked the KVK officials to work with zeal & zest in transferring the need based technologies to the farming community for doubling their income. Guest of Honour Sri. S. Jawal, Assistant Director Fishery, Namsai also stressed that women farmers can play pivotal role in establishment of bee colonies into their farm to generate alternative source of income as well as help to enhance the production too. Later, Dr. Mahesh Pathak, Head KVK East Siang & Course Director of this programme also briefed about the world scenario and the status of India in Honey production and he also informed the house that North East Region particularly Arunachal Pradesh will become the game changer in the coming years in honey production. Mr. Toge Riba, SMS Plant Protection gave power point presentation on the Scientific Bee keeping in detailed and Mr. Chow Athina Chauhai, CEO of National Organic Spice and Agricultural Products Producers CO. Ltd. also offered their services to popularize this income generating activities by the FPC in the district. The other resource persons present were Dr. Debashis Sasmal & Dr. Santosh Kumar, Scientist KVK Namsai. The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pathak with the remark that next coming days the farmers will taking interest and learn how to start the beekeeping as viable venture in collaboration with CHF, Pasighat and under the guidance of KVK Namsai.
